Ontology Visualization Tools Recommender

Consultation with the 'Ontology Visualization Tools Recommender' will help you find the most appropriate ontology visualization tool for your use case and your ontology. Consultation contains 4 questions. Here, you can use tailored web interface for the recommender system. Standard recommender system interface is accessible from recommender web-page description and further information about NEST expert system ontology visualization knowledge base is provided at supplementary web-page. In general, the recommender allows you to enter weights (within the interval <-3;3>) representing uncertainty of importance of given attribute/feature: in general the more important, the higher positive weight. The less important, the lower negative weight. Weight zero represents the fact that the answer is not relevant. For the sake of better comprehensibility within this web interface, we mapped weights to word expressions of uncertainty: Thus, the interpretation of a weight ranges across:

  1. certainly (3),
  2. probably (2),
  3. perhaps (1),
  4. indifferent (0),
  5. perhaps not (-1),
  6. probably not (-2) and
  7. certainly not (-3).

Besides asking directly for uncertainty expressions, the system can ask for numbers which are then automatically converted to fuzzy intervals with computed weights, e.g. the ontology size question.

If you want to directly use weights during you consultation you can use user interface with weights.

Inspect features of particular ontology

Newly, you can upload particular ontology which you want to visualize. The ontology will be inspected and as a result answers to the first and the fourth question will be suggested. These suggested answers for the consultation can also be modified.

NEW It is also possible to inspect collection of ontologies (as zip archive) at the same time using different web page interface.

1st consultation question about OWL features

How important are the following types of entities and relations in the ontology you want to visualize?

Are complex classes important for the ontology visualization?
Are inter-class relationships important for the ontology visualization?
Are object properties important for the ontology visualization?
Are datatype properties important for the ontology visualization?
Are property characteristics: important for the ontology visualization?
2nd consultation question about a preference of ontology development environment

How much you prefer the following ontology editors?

Do you prefer Protége 3?
Do you prefer Protége 4?
Do you prefer NeOn Toolkit?
3rd consultation question about an intended usage

How much the following types of actions are important to your actual or hypothetical use case which is to be supported by the visualization tool?

Do you want to make screenshots?
Do you want to check domain inconsistencies?
Do you want to check structural inconsistency?
Do you plan to reuse ontology?
Do you want to adapt an existing ontology to fit a new use case?
Do you want to develop a new ontology?
Do you search for the right ontology?
Do you want to analyze mappings of the ontology?
4th consultation question about the ontology size

How many entities (sum of all classes and properties, without instances) the ontology, you want to visualize, has? If your ontology has more than 1000 entities, please just enter the maximum 1000.

Ontology Size:     (size between 0 and 1001)
